Unpaid medical bills are the leading cause of bankruptcy in the US, according to Harvard Medical School
Almost 80% of those who filed bankruptcy due to medical bills had health insurance at the time of their injury
Recovery from a catastrophic auto accident can cost millions of dollars
There are over 200 million licensed drivers in the US (and this unfortunately could happen to anyone)
Other states do have PIP benefits available, but they're very limited. Florida has a $10,000 benefit.
